OncologyEducation’s Best of ASCO® Conference is a program licensed by the American Society of Clinical Oncology and will be held virtually on June 25th, 2021. Chaired by Dr. Scott Berry and Dr. Natasha Leighl, the focus of this event will be to provide medical oncologists and other healthcare practitioners with a summary of the most significant treatment advances presented at the ASCO® 2021 Annual (digital) Meeting, with presentations focused on several key disease sites. The Best of ASCO® Toronto faculty will draw from some of Canada’s most influential oncologists.
• To summarize the most significant treatment advances presented at ASCO® 2021
• To review the current standard of care for key malignancies
• To discuss the current controversies in the management of specific cancers
Dr. Scott Berry, BSc, MD, MHSc, FRCPC
Dr. Scott Berry is a medical oncologist and Professor and Department Head in the Queen's University Department of Oncology. He is the Cancer Program Medical Director at the Cancer Centre of Southeastern Ontario at the Kingston Health Sciences Centre.
Dr. Berry is an active participant in clinical research in GI cancer. He is the Co-Chair of the GI Disease Site Group of the CCO Program in Evidence Based Care.
Dr. Berry loves teaching, has won several teaching awards and is a past Chair of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada Specialty Committee for Medical Oncology.
His other academic interest is the bioethical issues surrounding the care of people with cancer, in particular the ethical issues surrounding funding new and expensive cancer medications. Dr. Berry has a Master’s degree in Bioethics from the University of Toronto. He is the former ethics advisor to the pan-Canadian Oncology Drug Review and has served on the ASCO Ethics Committee.
Dr. Natasha Leighl, MD
Dr. Natasha Leighl, MD MMSc FRCPC FASCO, is Professor of Medicine in the Department of Medicine and IHPME at the University of Toronto, Canada. She is Lung Site Lead in the Division of Medical Oncology at the Princess Margaret Cancer Centre, and holds the OSI Pharmaceuticals Foundation Chair in Cancer New Drug Development. She was recently awarded the 2019 American Society of Clinical Oncology Excellence in Teaching Award to recognize her outstanding contribution to mentoring Canadian and international oncologists in training. She has published nearly 300 peer-reviewed papers and held well over 6 million dollars in peer-reviewed grant funding. Her main interests are the development of new treatments in lung cancer, liquid biopsy and improving the delivery of lung cancer care.
